A Minneapolis trio whose four albums offered melodic, acoustic-driven rock with plainspoken lyrics.
If you want the Tait sound in a nutshell, try 'Free Will' or 'Looking For You.' They're good examples of how the band handled big questions without getting fancy about it.
Tait's music had a direct, unadorned quality that felt honest. Songs like 'Free Will' and 'Looking For You' worked because they didn't dress up their questions about belief and daily life. They just put acoustic guitars and clear vocals to work on things people actually wrestle with.
The band formed in Minneapolis in 1994 and released four albums between 1997 and 2003, starting with 'Seven Days' and ending with 'Closer.' Michael Tait left in 1999, drummer Grant Cunningham died in 2002, and they regrouped briefly to finish that last record before disbanding in 2005.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
