Tambo Tambo

Tambo Tambo formed in Huancayo, Peru in 1986, led by brothers Raúl and Freddy Torres. They started as teenagers mixing traditional Andean melodies with rock and pop, an approach that initially raised eyebrows but eventually found an audience. Their debut album "Perdona Si Te Hago Llorar" featured the title track that became one of their most recognizable songs.

Their lyrics often touched on social issues and romantic themes, which drew criticism from conservative circles while connecting with many listeners. Beyond "Perdona Si Te Hago Llorar," songs like "Querida," "Siempre En Mi Mente," and "Así Fue" became staples in their catalog. The band's core lineup included Raúl Torres on vocals and guitar, Freddy Torres on guitar, Mario Rivera on vocals and guitar, and Julio Melgar on drums.

Raúl Torres, the band's primary songwriter and frontman, died in 2015. Their music blended Andean traditions with contemporary influences, reaching audiences across Latin America without losing its regional roots.
