Archive material and source history
Tamboerijn formed in the Netherlands in the early 2000s around singer-songwriter Niels de Jong, with Rutger Kroese on drums and Koen van de Wardt on bass. They later added violin and cello players to the lineup. Their debut album 'Zilver' came out in 2006, and its single '1000 Liedjes' became a national hit in the Netherlands.
They released several more albums over the next decade, including 'Hartstocht' in 2008 and 'Duizend Liedjes' in 2011.
Their music blended folk and pop with some experimental touches, built around de Jong's introspective lyrics. They developed a following in Dutch music circles for that particular sound.
