Tambores de Adoradores

Tambores de Adoradores formed in 2000 in Guarulhos, São Paulo, started by Pastor Sérgio Gomes. The group wanted to make contemporary gospel music that would connect with younger listeners, mixing traditional Brazilian rhythms like samba and axé with electronic elements and strong percussion. This approach drew some criticism from more traditional corners of the gospel scene, who felt it strayed too far from conventional sounds.

Their 2001 album 'Grito de Guerra' gave the band its name and established their energetic, drum-heavy style. Songs like 'Filho Pródigo' and 'Meu Socorro' became staples in their live sets, built around driving beats and passionate vocals that aimed to create an intense worship atmosphere. The lineup included Sérgio Gomes on vocals and percussion, Ester Gomes on vocals, and André Valadão on drums among others.

They kept recording through the 2000s with albums like 'Profeta da Adoração' in 2003 and 'Eterno Louvor' in 2006. Their sound remained centered on those percussive foundations, with tracks like 'Tenha Fé' showcasing how they layered traditional rhythms with modern production. The music was designed to be physically engaging in a worship context, less about quiet reflection and more about collective, rhythmic celebration.
