Tangará and Pavão first met in Uiraúna, Paraíba, where they started playing local bars and festivals. They recorded their debut album in 1989, which included the song "Carreira do Ó." That track, with its straightforward lyrics about the life of a sertanejo musician, connected with listeners and became their most recognizable work.
Their discography includes albums like "Forró do Sertão" from 1993 and "Na pegada do forró" from 2002. Other songs like "Força do Destino" and "Falso Juramento" also became part of their setlists. The duo's sound worked within the sertanejo tradition, sometimes touching on forró rhythms.
José Ribeiro, known as Tangará, handled lead vocals and guitar. Francisco Ribeiro, Pavão, provided backing vocals and played bass. They were sometimes joined by musicians like Zé do Acordeon on accordion and Chico do Pandeiro.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
