Tangerina Jones formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1990s, with brothers Edson dos Reis and Fredson dos Reis later joined by Marcos Vinicius. Their debut album 'Paulistana de Pedra' came out in 1998, but it was the 2001 follow-up 'Álcool e Gasolina' that brought them wider attention. The title track from that album became their most recognizable song.
Their music mixed samba, rock, and pop elements, with songs like 'Férias Na Cidade' and 'Aonde Os Ventos Vão' showing their range. The band sometimes wrote about social issues, which occasionally drew criticism, but they kept making music on their own terms.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
