A five-member J-pop side project that put out eight albums and songs like 'Seinaru Kane ga Hibiku Yoru'.
For a quick sense of their sound, 'Seinaru Kane ga Hibiku Yoru' and 'A Rainy Day' hold up pretty well. They're the kind of songs that explain why people still dig into the catalog.
Tanpopo gave a handful of Morning Musume members a space to try something a little different, with songs that still pop up in J-pop playlists. Their debut single 'Last Kiss' hit number two on the Oricon chart, and 'A Rainy Day' from 2000 became a particular favorite. You can hear that shift in tone on tracks like 'Seinaru Kane ga Hibiku Yoru' and 'Watashi no Kao'.
Producer Tsunku formed the group in 1998 with five Morning Musume members, including Kaori Iida and Mari Yaguchi. They released eight studio albums like 'Tanpopo 1' and 'Tanpopo 2' before Yuko Nakazawa left in 2001 to go solo, and the unit wrapped up not long after.
