Tanya was born Tânia Maria Cordeiro da Silva in 1967 and grew up in Rio de Janeiro's Vila Isabel neighborhood. Her debut album 'Coração Dividido' came out in 1992, and its title track became a national hit in Brazil. That song, along with 'Sexy Body' and 'Two Sparrows In A Hurricane,' are among her most recognized recordings.
She released several albums through the 1990s and early 2000s, including 'Sonhos de Amor' in 1994, 'De Corpo e Alma' in 1997, and 'Beatriz' in 2000. A live album recorded at Morro da Urca came out in 2003, followed by 'Uma Noite em Copacabana' in 2010.
Tanya has worked with other Brazilian musicians like Seu Jorge, Marisa Monte, Arnaldo Antunes, and Carlinhos. In 2006, she was involved in a legal dispute over music rights.
