Her song 'Back of the Barn' came out on the 2002 album 'Livin' It Large' and became her most recognized track. The ballad's straightforward lyrics about a rural affair drew both attention and some criticism, which seemed to amplify its reach rather than diminish it.
In 2012, Kernaghan wrote about her divorce in an autobiography. She has continued performing and writing music since then, often speaking about rural communities in Australia.
