Tanya Tagaq

Tanya Tagaq comes from Nunavut and works with a vocal style rooted in traditional Inuit throat singing. She released her first album Sinaa in 2008, and later records like Animism and Toothsayer built on that foundation with electronic and experimental layers. Her songs can be raw and unsettling, dealing with subjects like violence and colonialism, which has sometimes drawn criticism alongside the acclaim.

Her performances often feature collaborators like cellist Jason Sharp or percussionist Jesse Zubot, who help shape the live sound.
