The Ann Arbor band that blended metal riffs with introspective writing.
For a good sense of their range, listen to 'Around The Bend' and 'It's Natural.' They show both sides of what Taproot does well.
Taproot's sound has always been about that push-pull between aggression and melody. You can hear it in songs like 'Fear To See,' where the guitars hit hard but the vocals stay grounded. Stephen Richards brought a literary sensibility to lyrics that could have just been angry, which gave their music an unexpected depth.
They formed in Ann Arbor in 1997 with Stephen Richards as the constant through lineup shifts. Their catalog includes six studio albums, and they dealt with a legal dispute with Atlantic Records in 2006 over a sample on 'Our Long Road Home.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
