Tarkan Tevetoğlu, who performs as Tarkan, was born in Alzey, Germany in 1972. He grew up hearing Turkish folk music alongside Western pop and R&B, which later showed up in his own work.
A few years later, his 1997 album 'Ölürüm Sana' included the single 'Şımarık,' which got attention outside Turkey. That song, along with tracks like 'Pare Pare' and 'Ay,' helped give him an audience in other countries. He's put out more than a dozen studio albums since, including 'Dudu' in 1994, 'Karma' in 2001, and '10' in 2017.
Tarkan has worked with other musicians like Sezen Aksu and Ozan Çolakoğlu. His lyrics and performances have sometimes drawn criticism in Turkey, but he's kept recording. Songs such as 'Unut Beni' and 'Aşk Gitti Bizden' are part of a catalog that mixes romantic ballads with dance-pop.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
