Tarnation

Tarnation was a Los Angeles experimental rock band active in the 2000s and early 2010s. Their music had a haunting quality, built around Daniel Davis's vocals and guitar, Michael Bonaventure's bass, and Aaron Harris's drums. They released albums like 'Lonely Lights' in 2003, 'The Establishment of Us' in 2005, and 'The Terror' in 2011.

Their song 'Lonely Lights' appeared on the 'Donnie Darko' soundtrack, which gave it some cult recognition. Other tracks like 'A Place Where I Know' and 'An Awful Shade Of Blue' followed a similar atmospheric path. The band's approach was uncompromising, favoring experimentation over convention, which drew a specific audience but also some criticism for being obscure.

Their sound didn't really fit into mainstream rock, but it found listeners who appreciated its eerie, dissonant edges. The music stays in that space, more about mood than hooks.
