Brothers Társis and Iraídes Melo formed this Brazilian group in 1983, building a following through local club shows.
For their signature sound, start with 'História de Amor' and 'A Cruz Antes'. The later 'Cura' shows they stayed true to that emotional approach.
Their 1988 debut album 'História de Amor' gave Brazil a major hit with its title track, establishing their sound. Songs like 'A Cruz Antes' and 'Meu coração te alcança' show their style of emotional ballads that connected with audiences. They kept making music through lineup changes and public scrutiny, with later tracks like 'Cura' continuing in that same heartfelt vein.
They started playing Porto Alegre clubs in 1983, with the Melo brothers and guitarist Luis Malheiros as the core. After 'História de Amor' broke through in 1988, they released several more albums through the 1990s and early 2000s, including an acoustic session in 2003. Társis Melo's outspoken social views sometimes drew criticism, but they kept working through it.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
