Doldrums

My system initializes, though startup brings such pain

Only a supporting program in a cold machine ballet

Simple step in a complex design, an insignificant wheel

Whose purpose will never evolve, an interchangeable cog

Existence to facilitate, a crutch for the weak

A broken whipping boy, forever incomplete

My ship adrift at sea, the compass will not spin

Clouds hide the stars from me, oh how i pray for wind

The burden of self awareness carries such a price

Leading wheels to believe

That they can be more than what they are

Arcane mechanical pageantry, cycling without a pause

The ritual perpetuates, the show must go on

I was created to serve, never afforded a choice

All i want is to scream, but was built without a voice

I am the house gutted by fire, i've nothing left inside

A shell seen to the world, such emptiness it hides

I am a living sacrifice, an effigy of myself

A machine upon his cross, an antique up on the shelf

Who is god to the machine? is it man who built this thing?

Or that which has made the man? where do i turn?
