Taryn Manning was born in Falls Church, Virginia in 1978. She moved to Los Angeles as a teenager, initially focusing on acting but continuing to write songs. Her breakthrough acting role came as Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett on Netflix's Orange Is the New Black.
In 2017, she released her debut single "Send Me Your Love" featuring Sultan & Ned Shepard, which found success on dance charts. She followed with songs like "Turn It Up" and "Spotlight," and released two studio albums in 2018 and 2019. She has collaborated with various musicians and producers rather than maintaining a permanent band.
Manning's public life has included some legal difficulties, including a 2018 arrest for alleged assault outside a Los Angeles nightclub. The charges were eventually dismissed. She continues to work across both music and acting.
