Taylor Hawkins started The Coattail Riders in 2004 as a side project while drumming for Foo Fighters. He sang and wrote songs for the band, which put out its self-titled debut in 2006. They followed it with 'Red Light Fever' in 2010 and 'Get the Money' in 2019, the last one giving a title to a track like 'Get The Money' from their catalog.
The music didn't stick to one lane. You could hear rock, pop, and funk on that first album, and later records brought in touches of blues and psychedelic sounds. Songs like 'Sunshine' and 'Don't Have to Speak' carried Hawkins's vocal energy and melodic sense. He played drums and sang, with Chris Chaney on bass and Gannin Arnold on guitar as the core trio.
Hawkins died in 2022. The band's activity stopped with his passing, leaving three studio albums and a handful of sharp, upbeat songs that showed a different side of his musicianship.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
