Tc Matic

Tc Matic formed in Brussels in 1980 around frontman Arnaut "Arnold" Devos. Their debut album "Machiavel et le marquis de Sade" came out the following year, mixing post-punk and new wave. They followed it with "Carnage" and then "Tchic et Toc," which moved toward a more experimental sound.

In 1983 they released "Oh La La La," which became their best-known track. The song's catchy melody and sly lyrics gave the band a wider audience. Other songs from that period like "Arrivederci Solo" and "Give Them a Leader" kept up their sharp, slightly theatrical style.

They put out several more albums through the 1980s, including "An Electric Cabaret" in 1984 and "L'Odeur de la joie" in 1988. Devos stayed at the center while other musicians came and went. Their live shows were known for being intense and a little provocative, which sometimes drew complaints about their lyrics.

Tc Matic's music had a certain wiry energy and dark humor that stood out in the Belgian scene of that time. They weren't trying to fit in, and that gave songs like "Cook Me" and "Being Somebody Else" their own peculiar charge.
