Tecla SAP formed in Lisbon during the mid-1980s, with Alexander Search as their frontman. Their sound mixed electronic dance music with Portuguese rhythms, and they built a following around that approach. The track "Boto-me de Pé" became a hit for them, and they released other songs like "Mais Que Palavras" and "Furacões e Borboletas."
They put out several albums through the late 1980s and 1990s, including "O Vento e a Ira" in 1986 and "A Revolução" in 1996. The band included Manuel Delgado on guitar, Pedro Pestana on bass, and Anabela Duarte on keyboards. Their lyrics often touched on social themes and personal reflection.
Tecla SAP faced some criticism for their style and lyrical content during their active years. They were known for an experimental edge in Portuguese music at the time, and their work has been referenced by later artists in the electronic scene there.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
