Archive material and source history

Ted Gärdestad was born in Sollentuna, Sweden in 1956. He learned piano and guitar early on, and his debut album 'Undringar' came out in 1972. That record included 'Jag Ska Fånga En Ängel,' which became a national hit in Sweden.

His brother Kenneth Gärdestad worked with him on writing and production. Other collaborators included Lill Lindfors and Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA. Gärdestad released several albums through the 1970s, like 'Ted' and 'Solregn,' and songs such as 'För Kärlekens Skull' and 'Angela' remained popular.

He struggled with depression in the late 1970s and was hospitalized at times. Gärdestad put out one more album, 'Stormvarning,' in 1983. He died by suicide in 1997 at age 41.
