Teedra Moses

Teedra Moses grew up in New Orleans, where she started singing early. Her debut album 'Complex Simplicity' came out in 2004, featuring songs like 'Be Your Girl' and 'R U 4 Real.' The record caught some attention for its straightforward approach to R&B.

She worked with Raphael Saadiq early on, who signed her to his Pookie Entertainment label. The music from that period has a direct quality, less about grand production than about letting her voice carry the emotion. Tracks like 'Outta My Head' and 'Caught Up' show that plainspoken style.

In 2013, Moses shared that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She kept recording and performing afterward, though her output became less frequent. The songs she made later still have that unadorned feel, a kind of R&B that doesn't try to sound bigger than it needs to.
