Archive material and source history
Telê was a sambista from Rio de Janeiro who began recording in the early 1970s. His debut album 'Samba do Telê' came out in 1972 and included the track 'Indício de Amor,' which became one of his best-known songs. He worked with musicians like Wilson das Neves and Paulinho da Viola.
His music stayed within the samba tradition, with songs like 'Dá Gosto Lembrar' and 'Só Chegar no Samba' showing his feel for the rhythm and phrasing of the genre. He recorded steadily through the 1980s and 1990s, putting out albums like 'Canta Samba' in 1980 and 'Sambas de Telê' in 1991.
In 2012, he released a compilation called 'Telê: 40 Anos de Samba' that looked back on his recordings. His songs remain part of the samba repertoire in Brazil.
