Tempura Kidz formed in 2004 with vocalist Yūki Isoya, guitarist Takayuki Isoya, bassist Nobuaki Kaneko, and drummer Takanori Fujimoto. Their debut single 'Donna Toki Mo' became a hit that year, establishing them in Japan's pop scene. The band's sound pulls from pop and rock, with songs like 'Cider Cider' and 'Happyi Natsu Matsuri' carrying straightforward, upbeat melodies.
In 2006, drummer Fujimoto left the group. The band faced some criticism around that time regarding the originality of 'Donna Toki Mo,' though they denied any plagiarism. They kept recording, putting out tracks like 'Suimin Busoku' and 'Vegetarhythm' that maintained their energetic, accessible style.
Tempura Kidz continued performing and releasing music, with Yūki Isoya handling most of the songwriting. Their catalog includes songs such as 'Lollipop,' 'Mask Mask,' and 'One Step,' which fit into the broader J-pop landscape without dramatic shifts in direction.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
