Ten Sharp was a Dutch pop-rock band that formed in 1987 with Marcel Kapteijn on vocals and guitar, Nicky MacDaniel on bass and vocals, Hans Jansen on keyboards, and Ronald Kool on drums. Their debut single 'You' came out in 1990 and became a hit in several countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, and Japan. They released three studio albums: Under the Water-Line in 1990, The Fire Inside in 1992, and Shop of Memories in 1995.
Beyond 'You,' their catalog includes songs like 'Rich Man,' 'Maybe,' 'Beautiful,' and 'Closing Hour.' The band faced some criticism for incorporating dance music elements into their sound, and Kapteijn struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues that affected the group's stability.
After the band ended, Kapteijn died in 2006 at age 39. MacDaniel pursued a solo career, while Jansen and Kool continued working in music. Their song 'You' still gets played at weddings and events, keeping their name familiar to listeners who remember that early 90s pop sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
