Teoria de Base

Teoria de Base formed in Belo Horizonte in 1991, started by brothers Alex and André Costa. Their music often works with acoustic guitars and keyboards, creating arrangements that feel spacious and a little removed from straightforward rock or pop. They've put out records like their self-titled debut in 1996, followed by 'O Mundo Real' in 1998 and 'Astronave' after that.

Their song 'As Flores Não Alcançam Esse Universo' has a somber tone that touches on mortality, which drew some criticism at the time. Another track, 'Um Olhar,' shows their tendency toward lyrics that lean into introspection rather than simple narratives. The band's sound never quite fit into mainstream Brazilian categories, which meant they built their audience slowly, outside the usual industry channels.

They kept recording and releasing music through the late '90s and into the 2000s, sticking with their own approach rather than chasing trends. The Costa brothers' collaboration remains at the center of the project, with their shared interest in atmospheric, lyric-driven songs shaping each album.
