Tequila formed in Mexico City in 1976 with Álex Lora on vocals, Sergio Mancera on guitar, Diego Herrera on bass, and Carlos Iglesias on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1978 and included the track 'Me Vuelvo Loco.' They followed it with records like 'Rock Show' in 1980 and 'Sangre en el Río' in 1982.

Lora's lyrics and stage presence sometimes drew criticism from conservative groups, which led to some censorship and legal issues. But the band kept playing, and songs like 'Necesito un amor' and 'Salta!!' found an audience across Mexico and parts of Latin America.

They put out a live album in 1988 and 'Ya Llegó Tequila' in 1991. Other tracks in their catalog include 'Algo Del Pasado' and 'Estoy en la luna.'
