Térez Montcalm formed in 1990 with Marie-Annick Lépine on vocals and guitar, Michel Rivard on vocals and bass, Jean-François Lemieux on drums, and Yves Desrosiers on violin. Their debut album came out in 1993, titled "Avec un Bout de Bois" after the song that became their best-known track.
That first record did well enough to win the Félix Award for Album of the Year at the 1994 ADISQ Gala. They put out three more albums over the next seven years: "La Traversée" in 1995, "Droits Devant" in 1998, and "Nomade" in 2000.
The band's lineup stayed mostly the same through those years, though Yves Desrosiers did leave at some point.
