Terraplane Sun started in Austin, Texas around 2002, with singer-songwriter Chris Hillman and guitarist Johnny Moeller at the center. They took their name from a reference to blues musician Robert Johnson. Their debut album 'Black Coffee' came out in 2004, and a track from it, 'Ya Never Know,' got some attention. They put out a couple more records like 'Coyote' in 2006 and 'The Road to Paris' in 2009.
For a while, the group included John McVey on drums and David Garza on bass alongside Hillman and Moeller. Their sound leaned into blues traditions, with Hillman's vocals and Moeller's guitar work driving things. Songs like 'Get Me Golden' and 'No Regrets' fit into that soulful, guitar-based style.
In 2010, there was some trouble over a song called '49 Cents' that involved copyright claims. The band kept playing shows and putting out music, but that episode was part of the story.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
