Terror Fúnebre formed in 1987 in Valparaíso, Chile, with vocalist Claudio Illanes, guitarists Rodrigo Tapia and Hugo Khast, bassist Carlos Tapia, and drummer Miguel Aguilar. They came up in the local underground metal scene, playing a heavy mix of death metal with doom and black metal elements. Their debut album 'The Essence of Evil' came out in 1992, followed by later records like 'Ashes To Ashes' in 1996 and 'Tentacles of the Sun' in 2013.
Their track 'É Muita Maldade No Coração' became one of their better-known songs. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band faced censorship and pushback in Chile over their lyrics. Guitarist Rodrigo Tapia left in 2005, and the group went on a five-year hiatus before returning with a different lineup in 2010.
