Thalarion formed in Finland in 2004 with Aslak Tolonen on vocals, Tommi Syrjä and Tuomas Mäkinen on guitars, Toni Jonsson on bass, and Mikko Kytömäki on drums. Their debut album 'Vortex' came out in 2008, followed by 'Beyond the Veil' in 2010 and 'The Great Fire' in 2013.
Their songs like '...And My Journey Continues' and 'A Herald Of Sorrow & Wretchedness' show their style, heavy, with lyrics that often touch on darker themes. Some of their material drew criticism from religious groups, and they faced concert bans in certain countries.
By the mid-2010s, the band saw lineup changes, with guitarist Tuomas Mäkinen and bassist Toni Jonsson departing. Tolonen and the remaining members brought in new players, including bassist Arto Väinölä and guitarist Antti Mikkonen. They've kept releasing albums, with 'Dark Matter' in 2016 and 'The Last Experiment' in 2020.
