Thape is a Portuguese band that started in the early 2000s. Paulo Machado, who had been in another group called Mesa, formed it with vocalist Sílvia Marques, guitarist Nélson Correia, bassist Pedro Silva, and drummer Rui Dias. They played small clubs and festivals early on, dealing with financial struggles while building a following.
In 2005, they put out their first album, 'Tudo Para Mim.' The title track, 'És Tudo para Mim,' became a hit in Portugal, climbing the charts and connecting with listeners. Other songs like 'Eu Decidi' and 'Por Amor' also found an audience. The band kept releasing albums over the next decade, including 'Mar de Mim' in 2007, 'Só de Mim' in 2010, and 'Aqui' in 2014.
Their music often dealt with themes of love and hope, delivered with straightforward melodies. They had a dispute in 2012 that caused some tension, but the details are sparse. Thape's sound stayed grounded in pop-rock arrangements, avoiding grand production in favor of direct emotional appeal.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
