Thathi formed in São Paulo in 1994 with Thiago Bertoldi on vocals and guitar, Fábio Sampaio on bass, and Rogério Martins on drums. They put out their first album in 1998, followed by several others over the next decade, including the live record 'Ao Vivo' in 2000 and 'Dois Mundos' in 2002.
In 2006, the song 'A Vida da Gente' became a radio staple across Brazil. Its straightforward melody and everyday lyrics connected with listeners, turning it into something of a national singalong. Other tracks like 'Roda Gigante' and 'Trancas' also got regular play.
Thathi's sound worked with Brazilian rhythms in a fairly direct, unadorned way. They kept recording into the late 2000s, with albums like 'Onze' and 'Viver' in 2009, before activity seemed to taper off. The band's catalog, especially that 2006 single, still surfaces on playlists and radio rotations years later.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
