The 5 Royals formed in Philadelphia in the early 1950s, with Lowman Pauling, Eugene Fox, Clarence Bassett, Raymond Johnson, and Harold Johnson making up the original lineup. They started playing local shows around the city before signing with Chancellor Records in 1957.
After disbanding in 1959, the group reunited in the early 1960s and moved to Atlantic Records. Their 1967 single "Dedicated to the One I Love" became their most recognizable track, along with "Think."
