The Acorn formed in Nova Scotia with Rolf Klausener on vocals and guitar, Howie Beck on guitar, Neal Caldwell on bass, and Paul Ahern on drums. They released their first album, Glory Hope Mountain, in 2005, followed by Ghost Mountain in 2008 and No Ghost in 2010. Their song Dominion became particularly well-known among their listeners.
In 2015, the band had to release Paper Anniversary independently after a legal dispute with their former label. They put out Meanwhile in Verona in 2012, then Take Me Apart in 2016. The group announced they were disbanding in 2018.
Their music often blended folk elements with more experimental approaches. Songs like Glory and Restoration showed their tendency toward personal, introspective lyrics set against melodic arrangements that could shift from quiet to expansive.
