The Allen Collins Band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in the late 1970s around guitarist Allen Collins. They put out a self-titled debut album in 1978 that included the track "Chapter One," which became their most recognizable song. The band's lineup featured vocalist Johnny Van Zant, bassist Leon Wilkeson, and drummer Burns Wickliffe.
Their music fit into the Southern rock sound of that period, with Collins handling most of the guitar work and songwriting. They released several more albums through the early 1980s, including Rock & Roll Forever in 1979 and Uncivil War in 1980. Another song from their catalog is "Just Trouble."
The group's run was relatively brief, and they faced some internal changes over those years. Later lineups included musicians like Mike Estes and Randall Hall. They stopped releasing new material after the early 1980s, though a compilation called Southern Rock Live: The Best of the Allen Collins Band came out in 1984.
