The Allisons were a 1960s pop quartet known for their 1961 single 'Are You Sure?', which reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was written by guitarist Larry Allison, with drummer Jerry Allison contributing as co-writer. Lead vocalist Jo Allison and bassist Tommy Allsup completed the lineup.
They released a follow-up album called 'The Allisons Sing' in 1962, mixing originals with covers. Their 1964 album 'Time to Move On' took a more experimental direction but didn't match their earlier commercial success. The band disbanded in 1965.
Legal disputes over unpaid royalties from 'Are You Sure?' persisted for years. The song also faced plagiarism allegations from another artist, though the details remain unclear. Jo Allison reportedly struggled with substance abuse during her time with the group.
