The Amazing Stroopwafels came out of Amsterdam with a sound that mixed rock, pop, and folk. Their song "'t Was grandioos" became something of an anthem, and they followed it with albums like 't Was grandioos in 2010, Vrije vogels in 2013, and Grandioze wereld in 2016.
Willem "Stroop" de Vries sang and played guitar, with Anna "Wafel" de Jonge on bass, David "Stroopwafel" Jansen on drums, and Jasper "Stroopwafel" van den Berg on keyboards. They all sang. Their lyrics sometimes touched on things like drug use and mental health, which got them attention, not all of it positive.
They had other songs like "Alles draait," "Altijd op school," "Beesten hebben altijd wat," and "Bloemenman." The band's early days included some accusations of plagiarism, but they kept going.
