The Babe Rainbow formed in Australia around 2015, led by Angus Leslie. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2017, followed by records like Double Rainbow in 2018, Seeking Shelter in 2019, and Today in 2021. They've worked with other Australian acts like King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and Mild High Club.
Their sound has a psychedelic, melodic quality that feels both dreamy and accessible. Songs like "Something New," "Losing Something," and "Morning Song" show their knack for gentle grooves and hazy pop structures. The band's lineup has included Cameron Hunter on bass and Jake Surefire on drums.
In 2019, guitarist Sam Hall left the group. The band kept recording, and by 2021 they had put out "Something New" as a single. Their music doesn't shout or demand attention, it drifts along with its own quiet logic, more interested in atmosphere than grand statements.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
