The Black Box Revelation is a Belgian rock duo from Brussels, formed in 2006 by childhood friends Jan Paternoster and Dries Van Dijck. They started out playing as The Revelations before settling on their current name. Paternoster handles vocals and guitar while Van Dijck plays drums and also sings.
Their self-titled debut album came out in 2009 and included the track "Beatbox Revelation Pt. 1," which got some attention internationally. They followed that with albums like "Silver Ghosts" in 2011 and "My Perception" in 2013. Other songs in their catalog include "Bitter," "Cold Cold Hands," and "Dollars Are Sweet, They Say."
They've built their sound around straightforward rock with some blues elements, keeping it to just guitar and drums for most of their recordings. Their music tends to lean into raw, energetic arrangements rather than polished production.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
