The Bonfyre formed in Nashville in 2009 with Matt Crane on lead vocals, Eric Hunnicutt on guitar, Jaron Lane on bass, and Ryan Grice on drums. Their debut single "U Say" got them some national attention, and their self-titled first album came out in 2012, landing at number six on the Billboard Country Albums chart.
In 2014, Hunnicutt was diagnosed with cancer, which forced the band to postpone a tour. Their second album, "Chrysalis," arrived in 2016, and they also contributed to the soundtrack for the film "The Best of Me." The band parted ways with their record label in 2018, citing creative differences, and continued independently.
