The Browns were a family quartet from Arkansas who sang together in the 1950s. Their version of "Blue Skirt Waltz" became their best-known song, and they also recorded "The Three Bells" and "12th Of Never." The group originally consisted of siblings Jim Ed, Maxine, Bonnie, and Don Brown.
After Don died in a car accident in 1954, their brother Bill joined. The Browns' sound was built around close family harmonies rather than flashy instrumentation.
They recorded several other songs including "I Take the Blame," "The Old Lamplighter," and "Scarlet Ribbons (For Her Hair)." Jim Ed handled lead vocals and played guitar and mandolin, while Maxine and Bonnie sang harmony and played rhythm guitar and bass respectively.
