The Buttertones formed in Los Angeles around 2012, with Jake Snider on vocals. Their early work included the EP "Gravedigger" and an album called "Surf Noir." Songs like "Orpheus Under The Influence" and "Darling, I Need Time But I Really Don't Know Why" show their lean toward jangly guitars and introspective lyrics.
They put out more records after that, including "Radio Heart" and "California Dreaming." The band's lineup at one point included James Douglas on guitar, Sean Redman on bass, and Conan O'Brien and Kyle Hoback on drums and percussion.
Their music has a certain LA feel to it, not exactly surf rock, but something with a bit of atmosphere and a straightforward indie rock pulse. Tracks like "Lemonade" and "Brickhead" keep things driving without too much fuss.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
