The Cadillac Three formed in Nashville in 2010 with Jaren Johnston on vocals and guitar, Neil Mason on bass and vocals, and Kelby Ray on drums. Johnston and Ray had known each other from Ashland City, Tennessee before moving to Nashville and meeting Mason. Their first album, 'Bury Me in My Boots,' came out in 2012, followed by self-titled and 'Legacy' albums in 2014 and 2017.
Their songs like 'Runnin' Red Lights' and 'Peace Love & Dixie' have a raw, energetic quality that doesn't fit neatly into traditional country categories. They've faced some criticism for their sound and drew attention in 2017 for playing a benefit concert for a conservative political group, which didn't sit well with some of their audience.
What they do is straightforward Southern rock with country elements, played loud and without much polish. The music works best in a live setting where the volume and energy can take over. Songs like 'Buzzin'' and 'Dirt Road Nights' capture that uncomplicated, driving sound they've maintained through their albums.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
