The Curtis Brothers were Albert and Carl Curtis with their cousin Larry, a trio from Philadelphia who started performing together in 1959. They got their start singing in gospel churches before moving to local clubs.
In 1962, they were discovered by a record producer and released their debut single "Bring Back My Buddy." Their song "Love This Is My Song" became particularly well-known, appearing on their 1964 album of the same name.
They faced some criticism for moving toward more secular music and dealt with racial prejudice during the segregated era. The group released several albums through the 1960s, including "I've Got a Woman" in 1965 and "Sweet Soul Music" in 1966.
