The Go-Set formed in Sydney in 1966 with Lindy Morrison on vocals and guitar, Ross Wilson on guitar, Leigh Croker on bass, Ian "Buzz" Bidstrup on drums, and Bob Parker on keyboards. Their debut single "Donna Donna" became a Top 10 hit in 1967, establishing them quickly in the Australian rock scene.
Their 1968 album "Hungry Years" showed the band moving toward more progressive territory, with songs that touched on social justice and war. That same year they released "1788 (Keenan)," a track about an Aboriginal resistance fighter that became associated with Indigenous rights activism. The song appears on their top tracks list alongside others like "5AM" and "Bakery Hill."
By 1970, the band faced performance bans in several Australian states following a show where anti-war protesters invaded the stage. Ross Wilson left in 1972 to work solo, and Morrison continued leading the group until it dissolved around 1975.
