The Himpios came out of San Francisco in the mid-1980s. Their early single 'Bastard' set the tone with its relentless pace and vitriolic lyrics, becoming something of an anthem for the band. They put out albums like 'Death Pop' in 1987 and 'Hate Your Guts' in 1989.
Their live shows were confrontational, and their lyrics drew criticism from some quarters. The band's lineup included Max Hart on vocals, Brian Baker on guitar, Greg Ginn on bass, and Jay Reatard on drums. They released a self-titled album in 1990.
Other songs in their catalog include 'Genève's Murderer' and 'Não Caminhei Nada'. The Himpios didn't last long as a band, but their raw, uncompromising approach found an audience in the punk scene of that era.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
