The Hoosiers formed in Reading around 2003, originally calling themselves The Hoosier Complex. Their lineup included Irwin Sparkes on vocals, Sam Swallow on guitar, Martin Skarendahl on bass, and Alfonso Sharland on drums. They built a following through live shows before their single 'Worried About Ray' broke through in 2007, landing in the UK top ten.
Their debut album 'The Trick to Life' reached number two in the UK charts. Sharland left the band in 2008 after an arrest for cocaine possession. They continued with a second album called 'Bumpy Ride' in 2010, which got positive reviews. Later albums like 'The Illusion of Safety' and 'The Secret Service' didn't sell as well. Skarendahl left in 2015, and the band went on hiatus in 2017 before reuniting in 2021.
