The Intruders

The Intruders were a Philadelphia soul group that formed in 1960, originally calling themselves The Teenagers. They worked with producer Thom Bell, who helped shape the lush, orchestrated sound of Philadelphia International Records. Their 1968 single 'Cowboys to Girls' became a breakthrough hit, establishing their place in that scene.

Philip Terry joined the group in 1965 and became their lead vocalist. His voice carried songs like 'I'll Always Love My Mama,' which became their signature track. That song, along with others such as 'Come Home Soon' and 'I Wanna Know Your Name,' showcased their tight harmonies and straightforward, heartfelt lyrics about family and romance.

They continued recording through the 1970s, though they faced some creative differences with their label later in that decade. The group's sound remained rooted in that classic Philly soul style, smooth, melodic, and built around Terry's earnest delivery. Their music didn't reinvent the genre so much as deliver it with a particular warmth and clarity.
