The Isaacs started as a family band called The Gospel Plowboys in Tennessee in the late 1950s, led by Joe Isaacs. They changed their name to The Isaacs in 1971 and released their self-titled debut album around that time. Their song 'He Understands My Tears,' written by Joe, became one of their most recognized pieces.
In 1978, Joe Isaacs and his wife Bessie died in a bus accident. The family kept performing through that loss. Their music mixes bluegrass and gospel, with songs like 'I Know Who Holds Tomorrow' and 'If That Isn't Love' showing their style.
Current members include Sonya Isaacs Yeary on lead vocals and guitar, John Isaacs on lead vocals and guitar, Rebecca Isaacs Bowman on vocals and bass, Ben Isaacs on vocals and mandolin, and Jerry Isaacs on vocals and banjo. They've put out over twenty albums, including 'Family First' in 1985 and 'Bluegrass Gospel' in 2004.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
