The Junkie Dogs came out of Los Angeles in the late 1970s with a punk sound that was raw and direct. Their debut album 'Dog Eat Dog' arrived in 1979, followed by 'Deadbeat Fantasy' in 1981. The band's lineup included vocalist and guitarist Skee Rag, bassist Jimmy Dogpile, and drummer Johnny Rude.
Their songs like 'Pocket Fuck Friend' and 'Junkie Girl' had lyrics that dealt plainly with addiction and alienation, which drew criticism from some quarters while connecting with others. The music itself was energetic punk with melodic touches, driven by Rag's raspy delivery and the rhythm section's solid foundation.
They developed a reputation for confrontational live shows and outspoken personalities that matched their musical approach. While they never became mainstream fixtures, their records found an audience among listeners who responded to their unvarnished take on punk rock.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
